Bodrum : Turkey

Whilst in Kos, we popped over to Turkey for the day.  Well, if you love your fake designer sunnies, bags, coats, bedding, EVERYTHING, you’ll certainly be in your element.  Not really my thing, but I still kinda liked the place.  We had a good long walk around the marina, before stopping for lunch on the beach.  Yes, our table was actually on the beach.  (honestly, name one better place in the world than the beach?!)

So, whilst Bodrum really is just another tourist town, I’m going to do one of those insisting visit things on you again.  If you do land yourself here one day, VISIT BODRUM CASTLE.  It’s actually an underwater archeology museum (stay with me here), but it’s not that dull kind where it’s just filled with dusty cases housing something old with a tatty description next to it, oh no no no.  The place is friggin’ awesome.  For real.  Yeah it’s filled with archaeology stuff, but in the coolest way I’ve ever seen.  The castle itself it’s absolutely amazing and huge.  This seems to be a reoccurring theme for me (remember Brussels), but we ended up going an hour before the ferry departed.  Hugeness coupled with only one hour could only result in us literally running around the place.  Oh yes, we ran.  And even with running around in a castle like a lunatic for an hour, we still didn’t quite get to see the whole thing.  Don’t make my rookie mistake, leave yourself at least a free morning or afternoon (and take some photo’s for me of the parts I’ve missed!).

Oh, and have I told you about the views yet?  No??  Well let me show you now, as they are certainly worth the hike to the top!  (And hopefully for you, at a more leisurely pace).

  3. Still beautiful if you point your camera in the right direction. (as you have done so well)
Commercialism’s a sad fact. I was interested to read about the museum in the castle. It didn’t exist, of course, when I was there, but I have a few shots from the battlements. (ALWAYS have to climb to the highest point for a view)
    Thanks for sharing. Happy travels!

    • I know. That’s the thing I hate the most, you can pretty much be in any european tourist town when it turns that way. And the castle even now has things like WHOLE boats inside it’s churches. Awesome place.
      Thanks for stopping by 🙂
